"Please do not bring live animals, birds, explosive or dangerous devices, onto the trains."

Not many places in the world would you get a warning like that in the subway corridors. People here like to take their birds out (caged, that is) for walkies. Old men sit out on hard cement blocks in dismal public "sitting-out areas" with their birds. The idea is that they can all discuss how beautifully each others' birds sing. The subways have some nerve preventing you bringing your birds...

Actually when I hear this announcement (made in three languages), I get this crazy mental picture of an exploding bird...
